AROUND THE CLUBHOUSE

KARUAH MOTOR YACHT CLUB RECENTLY GAINED LEVEL 2 AS A GOOD SPORTS CLUB.

Alcohol and sport are historically closely linked in Australia. Most major sporting competitions and teams promote and advertise alcohol consumption and many sports clubs have a tradition of heavy drinking. A large number of clubs depend on revenue from alcohol to finance club activities.

The Good Sports program is an initiative of the Australian Drug Foundation (ADF) to develop safer and healthier communities. The program helps sporting clubs manage alcohol responsibly and reduce alcohol related problems such as binge and underage drinking.

Good Sports is recognized in the community health sector for its extensive research.  The program is evidence-based and evaluation continues on an on-going basis.

Displaying the Good Sports logo sends an important message to club members and the community. It confirms that the club promotes a responsible attitude towards alcohol and that it provides a safe environment for players, members, families and supporters.

The weather was very warm and fine and we ended up with 13 vessels with 35 members registered for outside and estuary fishing. The amount of fish caught was very small for all the effort but one boat Gunna had the priviledge of seeing a Marlin caught & tagged, unfortunately not on their boat. Everyone had a great time and the roll-up of members and spectators at the weigh-in on Sunday at our Clubhouse was fantastic.

We wish to extend our thanks to Bob & Fran Dyer who came to Karuah on Sunday 13 th March to judge the competition. A job well done, thankyou Bob.

This year we have a beautiful new perpetual trophy for outside fishing. The old trophy is still in the Clubhouse, but was looking very tired after being from boat to boat since 2004. The new trophy will not be allowed to leave the Clubhouse & will last for years.
